Au Revoir Les Enfants

In 1944, Julien Quentin attends a boarding school run by friars near Paris. One day, a new student arrives: Jean Bonnet. In spite of the war and bombings going on, the fear and suspicion surrounding them, the two boys try to live a normal life, finally learning to know and appreciate one another. The story is based on a childhood memory of film director Louis Malle.

En 1944, près de Paris, Julien Quentin est pensionnaire dans un collège tenu par des religieux, quand un nouvel élève, Jean Bonnet, arrive. Les deux jeunes garçons essaient de vivre dans la normalité, malgré la guerre, les bombardements, la peur, la suspicion. Ils apprennent à se connaître et à s’apprécier. Ce récit est inspiré d’un souvenir d’enfance de l’auteur et cinéaste Louis Malle.
